International Women’s Choir

Thursdays 19.00 - 21.00

The International Women’s Choir is an intermediate-level choir of 22 women from around the world that come together to create a unique sound. Our repertoire spans a wide range of genres, from ABBA to classical music. Would you like to join us? Then, sign up for a trial session!

Pandora’s International Women’s Choir was born in September 2022. Our conductor is the Portuguese classical singer Francisca Branco. During the rehearsals she shares her talent and knowledge with us, guiding us through the pieces of different styles, working on vocal technique, musicianship and the art of singing together.

We do two big performances per year, one in June and one in December. For this reason, we only open new spots in January and in September. Commitment (coming to rehearsals and being there on time) is very important in order to feel truly comfortable on stage and enjoy the experience!

Frequent questions:

Is it necessary to have choral experience? Choral experience is recommended but not required! Some singers have a degree in music and for others this is their first musical experience :)

What happens if I miss a rehearsal? Francisca will send a detailed summary of what we did during the rehearsal so that you can study at home when you miss a session. However, it is mandatory to attend at least 70% of the rehearsals in order to participate in the concert.

Do I need to know how to read music?  No, but we work with music scores. Bit by bit, you will get familiar with some musical terms and guidelines, and you will be able to follow your voice in the score. Your colleagues can also help you during rehearsal!

I don’t know which type of voice I have. No worries! The first time that you come to a rehearsal, you may come 15 minutes earlier to have a short meeting with Francisca. She will guide you and make sure that you are in the right section :)

In which language are the rehearsals? We rehearse in English.

Where do you rehearse? Our rehearsals are in Pandora Studio (De Constant Rebecquestraat 3, The Hague).

Share your talent with friends and family

We organize two concerts each year: one at Christmas and another in Summer. These events are a wonderful opportunity to share our passion with friends, family, and other curious attendees. After the performance, we host a lunch, offering a chance to meet new people while enjoying food and drinks! Our choir is not professional, we are an amateur group who loves doing our best.

Francisca Branco

Hi, I’m Francisca. Singing has always been really important to me - as a child, I used to sing my thoughts, not think them. When I started learning piano at a local music school in Portugal, I managed to convince my teacher to play at student concerts instead of me, so I could sing instead. That didn’t make me a great pianist, unfortunately.

I studied singing at the Lisbon Conservatory and privately with Rui de Luna and Ghislaine Morgan in London - I never lived there, but I got to visit a lot! I finished a degree in Political Science and International Affairs in Portugal (my parents were keen) but then I flew to the NL to study singing at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. I stayed, and finished my Masters degree in 2020, as the pandemic hit. I had to record my final exam from my living room, on my phone. To add to the fun, all my singing students were now online (most of them under 12 years old) and we were all very frustrated. I started looking into other ways of being useful to the world, and that’s how I came to teach voice to executives. I formalized it, studied a bunch more - because why not? - and ended up being published on Forbes! (“Why your CEO needs a Voice Coach”). So now that’s what I do: I sing professionally, and I help others find their voice.

Choir Singing

Most of my musical professional activity these days is as an ensemble and choir singer. I’ve been singing in choirs since I was 11, and I still think it’s one of the coolest things you can do - so that should tell you a little about me. My first professional choir experience was at age 18, and I haven’t stopped since.

When Pandora approached me to start my own choir, that was the loudest YES I ever felt inside. Now, I lead 22 wonderful singers who meet every Thursday to build something beautiful. For me, choir singing begins with healthy singing and musical awareness. Every rehearsal includes classical singing technique and musicianship development. The warm-ups are designed to build vocal skills and help tackle musical challenges of the pieces we are working on. The repertoire is carefully chosen and arranged to challenge the group musically and vocally, and always making sure that we have a lot of fun.
