Evening Concert: Les Imperatrices

Les Impératrices is a young band that formed in September last year. It consists of four girls from all different backgrounds: Italy, Germany, Morocco, the Netherlands, and France. They present music on a composition of instruments that is not so common. In addition to vocals and bass guitar, a cello, harp and darbuka are also part of the music. Basically, Les Impératrices is a girl band that pays attention to female emancipation in general, and wants to contribute to breaking through the predominantly male domination within music groups and the music industry.

The musicians of Les Impératrices all study at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, where they follow both jazz and classical courses. The band performs different styles, which lead to a variety of musical landscapes and sounds that leave boundaries far behind in many ways. For example, in their songs traditions of defined musical genres are lifted and original roles within bands are reformulated.

In many more ways, Les Impératrices likes to leave boundaries far behind, with the aim of bringing out a variety of musical landscapes and blurring strict dividing lines between emotions. A collection of music that is hopeful, sad, danceable and intriguing at the same time.

To contribute to musical colors and rhythms, Les Impératrices also like to invite musical guests. This time it will be drummer Marco Ullstein who will complete the band on drums and darbuka.
