Join us for an evening with some of the greatest works for violin and cello, from the emblematic Sonata by Ravel, full of satire and musical cubism, to the folkloric Duo by Kodály, including audience favourites such as Mozart's G Major String Duo.

About the musicians...
Manuel De Almeida Ferrer | violin
A passionate young violinist hailing from Lisbon, Manuel De Almeida-Ferrer has performed on numerous stages in countries such as the UK, Belgium, Germany and China.
He had his solo debut at the age of twelve with Orquestra Gulbenkian under the baton of Michael Zilm and has often performed both as soloist and chamber-musician ever since, collaborating with Johannes Schlaefli, the Hermes Ensemble, Karen Gomyo, Daniel Rowland and Kyril Zlotnikov, and presenting himself with orchestras such as Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa and Orquestra Clássica do Centro. He is also a prize-winner in competitions in the UK, Belgium and Portugal. Manuel was scholarship recipient from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the Royal Academy of Music, Jeunesses Musicales International Deutschland and FNAPEC–France. His musical career took him to stages such as Wigmore Hall (London), TivoliVredenburg (Utrecht), Muziekgebouw (Amsterdam), Teatro São Carlos (Lisbon), Casa da Música (Porto), l’Auditori (Barcelona), Auditorio Nacional de Música (Madrid), among other venues.
A dedicated chamber musician, Manuel has presented himself in festivals such as Schiermonnikoog Chamber Music Festival, Stift Festival, Festival dos Capuchos, Bragança MusicFest and Thy Chamber Music Festival, among others. He is presently the violinist of Trio Jakob, currently in training in NSKA under the artistic leadership of Marc Danel, with whom he has won competitions in Andorra, Spain and Italy and has twice recorded for RTP-Antena 2. The trio has also recorded for the soundtrack of the documentary film by Sergei Loznitsa, The Invasion (2024) about the Russian invavsion of Ukraine. Amongst his other chamber projects, Manuel also counts the release of a CD by Da Vinci Records with the first ever recording of David Winkler’s piano quintet, a work commissioned by Martha Argerich. He was a member of the Royal Academy of Music Soloists Ensemble, with whom he recorded together with Trevor Pinnock for Linn Records (UK).
Manuel started his violin studies with Marylin Brito and continued them with Gareguin Aroutiounian. He has studied with Alissa Margulis, Jack Liebeck and Ilya Grubert in the Koninklijk Conservatorium Antwerpen, the Royal Academy of Music in London, and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
Hattie McGregor | cello
Hattie McGregor is studying classical and historical cello at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag with Lucia Swarts. As a graduate of the Yehudi Menuhin School, she also previously studied cello with John Myerscough (Doric String Quartet) and baroque cello with Jonathan Manson at the Royal Academy of Music. She was a prize-winner of both the 2022 Musica Goritiensis International Competition and the 2023 Prinses Christina Klassiek Concours. She has played in masterclasses with Cuarteto Casals, Claudio Bohórquez, Gary Hoffman, Adrian Brendel, Colin Carr, Jakob Koranyi, Sebastian Klinger, Zlatomir Fung, Natalie Clein, Bruno Cocset, and Alexander Chaushian, among many others. She performed as part of the Cello Biënnale Amsterdam, with the Dutch National Opera Academy / Residentie Orkest, at London Handel Festival, as a soloist with Südwestdeutches Kammerorchester Pforzheim, at Cello Akademie Rutesheim, Virtuoso and Belcanto, Kings Place London, and in a multitrack recording for DEUSS music publishing. While studying at the Yehudi Menuhin School with Matthijs Broersma and Bartholomew LaFollette, she had the privilege of performing with Charles Owen and Emanuel Despax, as well as with Akiko Ono as part of Maiastra chamber music programmes. She has been supported by the Agar Trust and the Nationaal Muziekinstrumenten Fonds. Hattie plays a Mirecourt 1830-40 cello made in the style of Charles Claudot, which was generously gifted to her in 2023.
